Comments:- Recorded by Decca at performances and rehearsals (July, August 1955). See John Culshaw in «Ring Resounding» p.51. Since Sieglinde was sung by Mödl and Varnay in the performances at Bayreuth in 1955, the parts of this recording in which Sieglinde appears must have been recorded at rehearsals. This was possibly to avoid contractual problems as Mödl was an «EMI artist».

Comments:- Recording of a performance in the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. The CDRs issued by House of Opera are listed as new issues in their online catalogue dated «03/12/22». The date of the performance is given here as 19 November 1957, but this must be incorrect as Elektra was performed in the Royal Opera House on that date. It seems more likely that the recording is of a performance in October or November 1955 when the new production opened. The performance on 17 October 1955 is reviewed in OPERA December 1955 p.791-796. The recording issued by The Royal Opera House is of the performance on 19 October 1955. According to Radio Times Issue dated October 16-22 1955 p.19 the performance on 17 October 1955 was broadcast by the BBC Third Programme.

Comments:- Recording of a performance by the Dallas Civic Opera (30 November or 8 December 1962; see OPERA February 1963 pp.97-98). According to OPÉRA INTERNATIONAL (loc.cit) the recording on the CDs issued on the Cin-Cin label is of a performance at the Vienna State Opera, but according to the chronology in «Mario Del Monaco - Monumentum aere perennius» Del Monaco never sang Otello in Vienna. The only performances with the partial cast quoted (Del Monaco, Vinay, Ligabue) are those in Dallas.
