Comments:- Recording of a performance in a German translation by Winfried Zillig at the Vienna State Opera (February 1960). The cast listed above is as given in «Karajan an der Wiener Oper - Dokumentation einer Ära» (Japanese edition p.107). The date of the performance recorded is given by Gala, incorrectly, as 6 February 1969. According to Chronik der Wiener Staatsoper 1945-2006 by Andres Láng p.482 Hans Hotter only sang Galitzky 3 times at the Vienna State Opera, between 6 and 22 February 1960, so perhaps this recording is of a performance on the first of these dates. I thank Mr David Cohen for drawing my attention to the difference between the date I quote and that given by Gala.
