Comments:- Recording of a performance at the MET (6 December 1947). See «Saturday Afternoons at the Old Met» pp.317-318. The recording issued by the GOmega Opera Archive is listed in their online catalogue (see CLORLINK.HTM). The source is described as «Fair to good private acetates. Missing 30 sec Beg. Act 2» and the conductor is incorrectly stated to be «Busch». However, according to «Annals of the Metropolitan Opera» the conductor was Max Rudolf. It is stated in «Saturday Afternoons at the Old Met» (p.317) «the opera was assigned to Busch, but illness compelled him to relinquish it to Max Rudolf». Omega has issued another recording of this performance (480 & 411) and the conductor is listed correctly as Rudolph in their catalogue.

Comments:- According to the review in ORPHEUS the recording on the CD issued by Legato (Premiere?) is of a performance at the MET, but according to the «MET Annals» (CD-ROM edition) Mitropoulos never conducted Tosca with Kirsten and Barioni in the same performance there. Rather, it appears to be a re-issue of the studio recording made for the «Metropolitan Opera Record Club». According to «The Complete Discography of Dimitri Mitropoulos» by S.A. Arfanis p.111 this was made in March 1957.
