Comments:- Recording of a performance in the Palacio de la Bellas Artes, Mexico City (12 July 1949). According to the «EJS Discography» (p.282) and to the Discography ofDi Stefano's recordings (The Record Collector Vol.39 No.3 p.278) the conductor was Renato Cellini. The «EJS Discography» also gives the year as 1950, but 1949 is also mentioned. The performance chronology and discography in «Simionato» by Jean-Jacques Hanine Roussel (p.261, p.301) gives the conductor as Picco and the year as 1949, and does not mention a performance of «La favorita» in Mexico Cityin 1950. An advertisment in GRAMOPHONE (December 1977 p.1082) gives the year as 1950 and the conductor as Cellini. The balance of evidence seems to be in favour of Cellini as the conductor and 1949 as the year. Hovever Bob Rose writing in Fanfare (Nay/Jume 2000 p,153) concluded that the conductor was most probably Picco

Comments:- Recording of a performance in the Teatro di San Carlo, Naples. The date is given as11 May 1963 in the Discography of «Simionato» by Jean-Jacques Hanine Roussel (p.301), but in the Performance Chronology (p.289) the date quoted is 12 May 1963. Presumably this date is of the first of the «run» of performances. Possibly the recording is of the dress rehearsal. What appear to be highlights of this performance appear as a «filler» on Melodram MEL 27036 (Il Duca di Alba)but the date given is 1 November 1963 (See FANFARE Vol.12 No.4 March/April 1989 pp.147-148). The date given by Hardy is 12 May 1963.

Comments:- Recorded in April 1940. The matrix of the «Siciliana» was damaged and a new recording of it was made on 16 November 1947 which was issued as part of the complete sets on 78s in the UK and USA. More details can be found in «Complete Operas on 78 R.P.M.» by Tom Peel. The CDs issued by EMI, Nimbus, amd Naxos use the original version of the Siciliana.

Comments:- The year of this recording is sometimes given as 1953, but this is almost certainly incorrect as the LPs issued by Cetra-Soria appeared for the first time in «Schwann» dated May 1952 and were reviewed in ARG June 1952. What appears to be this recording was broadcast by RAI Torino on 14 July 1953 (see 50 anni di opera lirica alla Rai 1931-1980 p.125) and this may account for 1953 being given as the year of the recording. According to «Simionato - How Cinderella became Queen» p.296 the recording was made in 1952, but it is not mentioned in the performance chronology. The year is given as 1949 in the review in Disques.

Comments:- Recording of a performance in the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. The cast listed above (and by mr. tape) is that which was announced for the performances on 21, 24, 26 February 1964; see OPERA February 1964). It appears that none of these was broadcast, so, presumably, the recording was made «in house». The CDRs issued by «Opera Depot» are listed on their website: http://operadepot.com/members/ (hyperlink in CLORLINK.HTM). Here the date of the performance recorded is given as «February 4 1964».
