Comments:- Recordings of performances at Covent Garden (see OPERA April 1961 p.271; AMERICAN RECORD GUIDE May 1961 Vol.27 No.9 p.708, p.710). The recording on the CDs issued by Testament is of the performance on 24 February 1961, the first of the run of six performances and, although not broadcast, was recorded by the BBC. These CDs were issued under licence from the BBC. The recording on the LPs and CDs issued by Melodram and the CDRs issued by Celestial Audio is presumably of the performance on 7 March 1961 which was broadcast by the BBC Third Programme (see Radio Times Issue dated March 4-10 1961 p.37). The Melodram LPs are advertized in GRAMOPHONE September 1983 p.407
