Comments:- A recording of a performance in New Orleans. The overture is played between Acts 1 and 2; the first scene (at Hornachuelos) of the latter is omitted. However, Scene 6 of Act 3 with the «Sleale» duet is included and this is followed by «Al suon del tamburro» from Act 2 Scene 1. This recording is sometimes stated as being of a performance given by the MET on tour in New Orleans, but this appears to be incorrect as it is not listed in the MET Annals, although both Milanov and Del Monaco were singing in La forza del destino at the MET about this time. Also, neither William Herbert nor Norman Treigle is listed in the Annals as being on the MET roster in the 1952-53 and 1953-54 seasons. According to «Mario Del Monaco - Monumentum aere perennius» p.829 Del Monaco sang in La forza del destino in New Orleans on 12 and 14 March 1953 and according to VAI's website (click link below) Acts 1 and 2 of the recording that they issued are of the performance on 14 March and Act 3 is of the performance on 12 March. The CDRs issued on the Encore label are (were?) listed on the website of «berkshire record outlet inc.» (hyperlink in CLORLINK.HTM).

Comments:- The recording on the CDRs issued by Premiere appears to be of a performance given by the New York City Opera in Philadelphia on 14 December 1965 (click link below). There was a new production at the City Opera (borrowed from Cincinnati Summer Opera) on 14 October 1965 with repeats on 30 October and 6 November, but Plácido Domingo did not appear in any of these performances. In fact, he only sang Hoffmann once at the City Opera, on 9 November 1966, but neither Sills, nor Treigle sang on that occasion («The New York City Opera» by Martin L. Sokol pp.344-353). The CDRs issued by Celestial Audio are listed on their website under «What's New ? New Year 2008» (hyperlink in CLORLINK.HTM).

Comments:- Recording of a performance at the New York City Opera. The recording issued by the Omega Opera Archive is listed in their online catalogue (see CLORLINK.HTM) where it stated that their recordings are available «on CD, cassette or reel-to-reel tape». Here the venue is given as «NYC» and the partial cast-listing suggests that the recording is of a performance at the New York City Opera. However, there was no performance there of Mefistofele on the date given by Omega, «Oct.24 1969». It is possible that this is a misprint for 24 September 1969 on which day there was a performance (see «The New York City Opera - An American Adventure» by Martin L. Sokol pp.379-381).
